Review: Fairfield by Marriott Surabaya The Fairfield Room

I stayed in Fairfield by Marriott Surabaya on 28th – 29th October 2017, during my 1 night transit in Surabaya. Fairfield is some kind like a low cost hotel brand managed by Marriott Hotels. The hotel providing basic amenities to ensuring good night sleep, free WiFi, free breakfast, and functional work space. So you might be better not expecting something luxury like a ‘true’ Marriott hotels when staying at Fairfield.

Fairfield by Marriott Surabaya is located in Mayjen Sungkono, one of the main street in Surabaya. So yes the location is very good, pretty much in the downtown of Surabaya. You can easily access every spot Surabaya has to offer.

The hotel occupied a few floors in Mayapada Tower Complex. Like almost in every building in Indonesia, you will find a tight security at the entrance of the building.

The lobby is located at the 2nd floor which can be accessed either by escalator or elevator. I just bring backpack, so using escalator wasn’t a big deal for me. But if you bring a lot of luggage, you may consider to using elevator instead. There also is a doorbell service after security at the entrance to assist you with your luggages.

The lobby was huge and clean. The floor-to-ceiling window also helps for making a bright and airy ambiance. It is a low cost hotel brand, so the decorations is simply minimalist but still nice in my opinion. You can find a mini market at the lobby area, in case you need to buy some small things.

The check-in was a breeze, It took only about 5 minutes to completed the process. During the process, the front office agent serve me a glass of orange juice as a welcome drink. Shortly after they handed me a pair of room key cards.

As per my advance request, I assigned into a smoking room which located at 6th floor. Although  that I am a smoker, I hate if my room smell like an ashtray. So I also requested the hotel to deodorize my room before I arrive. I guess they did it very well, I hardly smell any cigar trace smell when I entering my room.

Similar with the lobby, room decoration was also simply minimalist, yet functional. You will find some basic amenities in the room such as safe deposit box, mini bar, coffee maker, ipod dock, etc. The bedding quality was good also.

The bathroom was very clean and in the prime condition. The shower was so strong, with hot and cold water.

And of course, the toiletries wasn’t the branded one. So I’m using my own toiletries instead.

There were a small bar in the lobby, just behind the front desk. The drink selections wasn’t bad actually, but I didn’t find the bar cozy nor appealing enough for me. So I skip it and find some other place to drink outside of the hotel.

The breakfast was served in Kava Restaurant, at the 5ft floor. The dining room was big enough. There you will find many seating options, though the decoration was so so. If I didn’t remember that I am staying in a hotel, probably I’m gonna think that I having a breakfast in an office cafeteria. I choose to seat in the far end of the dining room, nearby the window.

Fortunately the breakfast selection are excellent, includes wide spread of Indonesian and Western. I checked out the pastries, and they were so good.

Apparently all of the public facilities of the hotel is located also in the 5th floor, such as swimming pool, fitness center, and spa.

Shortly after I go back to my room to clean up a bit. I need to catch my flight to Jakarta, so I checked out from the hotel around 11.30.

Bottom line

Well actually I prefer Fairfield’s sisters, such as JW Marriott. But for the amount that I paid, I think it is worth enough. Although not luxury, the hotel provides everything that you might need for a comfortable stay. For traveler who don’t mind to splurging a bit for more comfortable stay, I guess Fairfield is a good bet.
