Starpoints is the currency of Starwood Preferred Guest, loyalty program of Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Until 29th December 2017, you can purchase Starpoints with 35% discount. It is the highest discount that Starwood publicly offered.
You can buy 30,000 Starpoints per account per calendar year. With the promotion, you only pay about IDR 9,500,000 for 30,000 Starpoints which is a very good deal.
What make Starpoints so valuable is the versatility and the decent ratio if you transfer the points to airlines miles. The Starpoints can be transfered to many frequent flyer program with ratio 1:1, with exception AIr New Zealand, Gol, Latam, and United. You also will get 5000 bonus Starpoints for every transfer of 20,000 Starpoints into any frequent flyer. If you don’t have Starwood account yet, you can enroll one for free here.
An easy example is with FlyingBlue (frequent flyer of Air France-KLM). According to milecard, FlyingBlue categorized Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam into one region (lets name it Asia 2). You can traveling anywhere inside the region with Skyteam airlines (no matter direct or connecting) for only 10,000 FlyingBlue Miles one-way in economy class.
With the deal, you can transfer 10,000 Starpoints to 10,000 FlyingBlue miles for only about IDR 3,100,000. It is a very great deal, moreover if you have a plan to visit some of the expensive destination such as Raja Ampat.
Anyway even if you don’t really have any plan in the near future, you should consider take advantage of the deal as an investment for your future travel.
