United MileagePlus is the frequent flyer of United Airlines. MileagePlus let you book one-ways awards ticket (at half price of roundtrip) on their own airlines as well as Star Alliance airlines. Through 16th October 2017, you can buy United Miles with bonus up to 40%.
This is a tiered promotion: the more miles you purchase the bigger bonus you can get. Also, United well known for customizing their offer for each account. So different account might be get different offer. On my account, I get bonus as listed below:
- Buy 5,000 – 14,000 miles and get 20% bonus
- Buy 15,000 – 29,000 miles and get 30% bonus
- Buy 30,000 – 107,000 miles and get 40% bonus
The maximum amount of miles you can buy is 149,800 (including bonus) and for that amount it will cost you about IDR 55,000,000.00
United MileagePlus is quite useful and flexible, with many Star Alliance partner you can travel with. For example, you can travel from Indonesia to Oceania (Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, etc) one-ways with Thai Airways with miles from 17,500 in economy class, 30,000 in business class, or 40,000 in first Class.
Thai Airways First Class
Just do the math. You should compare the retail price of the flight and the cost if you buy miles. For many cases, I found that buying miles is better rather than paying cash directly to the airlines. Also, United offer the excursionist perk if you book roundtrip awards ticket with them, which will give this deal an additional value.
For other destinations, you can find United’s interactive travel destinations awards chart here.
I wouldn’t recommending you to buy miles speculatively. But if you have something in your mind, you might be better to consider this deal.
